27. The fair maidens

How I watched the maidens grow

And so came to love and know

So timid and so shy.

They looked to the sky

Or down to the ground below.

~

To be ever fresh and new

My feeling for them so grew

They tittered and smiled

Until I grew wild

And picked out the face of you.

~

And they were never alone

I said in a friendly tone

'May I have this dance?'

And then in a trance

I let my feelings be shown.

~

With time. The maidens would part

Each one with her own sweetheart

Except for that one

Whose heart I had won

With that end in mind from start.
