25. The Carnival

The one fine summers morn

Streets were full and gay

For when the day was born

'Twas carnival day!

~

Colour brightened the floats

And smiles of the young

To hear the happy notes

From the band were brung.

~

Merry laughs and chatter

From the women-folk

While the men would flatter,

Play around and joke.

~

Blessed with sunny weather

Spirits would be high

Lying in the heather

Looking at the sky.

~

The birds in merry song

People bless the day

The floats then pass the throng

And trundle away.
